My Vision

Me and Vince

Our son Vince died on December 23, 2011. Over the past couple of years I felt like I was supposed to be doing something but couldn’t quite figure out what it was. I have found peace in knowing that my son is alive in Heaven and that I will someday see him again. But what could I do to honor his memory? This question started in January. It seemed like everyone around me was making jewelry. I did some research and taught myself a few simple things and started feverishly making earrings and necklaces, but didn’t know quite why. Next, over lunch I found out my good friend Judi is a “master beader” and she gave me some advice. Then on our cruise in February, we stopped at a little shop in Roatan. A missionary couple was providing local artisans a place to make and sell their jewelry. So after many sleepless nights trying to fit all the pieces together, my dream started to fall into place.

We are in the process of making and collecting original art, crafts, and handmade jewelry to be used for kids in need. My idea is to provide “mini sports scholarships” which will include paying fees and buying sports equipment and clothing. We have done some work with Friends of North Richmond (Attack Poverty) so with our son’s love of sports and kids and our love of art, the name Friends of Vince just fits. I believe Vince would have loved being part of this, so I know he has been, is, and will be with us every step of the way. Thanks go out to my husband Sam who not only provided our seed money for supplies, but has also given his support throughout this process. With the help and inspiration of my daughters Cory and Tracy, my vision is finally coming together.

This organization is our way to honor our son. I can feel Vince hanging around my neck telling me “your the best mom in the whole world” once again, and I know everything is going to be ok. This project means everything to me; it’s my way of keeping my son’s memory alive.

If you would like to donate any of your art or craft items to be sold for this cause, please email me at: info@friendsofvince.com or give me a call at 832-877-1084. God Bless!
